Grace Christian Reformed Church

Welcome:

We welcome you to our worship service!  This morning Pastor William Koopmans will lead us in worship.

This evening: our combined worship service is at 5pm and it will be led by Calvary CRC and located at First CRC.

UPCOMING LORD’S SUPPER SERVICES:

We are celebrating Lord’s Supper Sunday September 18 in the pm worship service.

GRACE CHURCH VISION STATEMENT: As disciples of Christ our purpose is to encourage spiritual growth in ourselves, our family, and our church family so that we will be the presence of Christ to all the world around us in all we say and do.

Thought for the week:  “Profiting from advice takes more wisdom than giving it.”

MORNING OFFERINGS:

September 11, 2011 –CRWRC East Africa Drought Response: With plans continuing to gel over the last week, the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) announced today that it is drastically increasing its response to severe drought in East Africa. Previously planning a $4 million response, the agency now has a goal of distributing $7 million in emergency aid between August and December 2011. The response will include food supplies and drinking water, as well as fodder for livestock. This essential aid will help more than 100,000 Kenyans survive until the next harvest in January, 2012. Currently East Africa is experiencing its worst drought in 60 years and it is affecting more than 10 million people. CRWRC will be applying all donations received up to the maximum allowed toward receiving the 4:1 match with CFGB for the Food Aid portion.  However, they will also apply for the 1:1 match with the CIDA directly for Water and Animal Fodder support as well.   Please be sure to mark your cheque:  CRWRC East Africa Drought Response.”

September 18, 2011 – Joint Refugee Fund: Together several members of the Blenheim, Calvary, First, and Grace CRCs meet together (as the joint refugee committee) to choose a person or family to sponsor, arrange their arrivals, plan fundraisers and offerings to help support these families during their first year in Canada and assist the families in any way needed.  All of these steps take a great deal of time, effort and commitment on the part of these generous volunteers.  Though we may not be directly involved with all the planning and work involved we can all help today with a financial donation.

Please inform the office or your district elder if there are any announcements or concerns that you would like to go in the bulletin.   Please have all bulletin items in by Wednesday 7pm.  Office Hrs: Tues –Fri 9am–noon

BUDGETS FOR 2012: ATTENTION ALL COMMITTEES AND PROGRAMS: Please put together your budgets for 2012 and submit them to Ron N, Board of Trustees, by October 1st.  These budgets need to be detailed with how the monies are distributed within your budget ie. craft supplies, study material, etc.  If you have any questions please talk to Jake J, Clerk of Council, or Ron N, Board of Trustees Chair.

USING YOUR GIFTS IN WORSHIP: We have put a form in your mail slots for you to fill out on how you are able and willing to be involved in worship.  There are many things to choose from and this is meant for youth all the way up to our older members to fill out and get involved.  Please put the completed forms in the church office.  If you need more, there are more on the table in the narthex.

FLOWER MINISTRY: The Flower Ministry is beginning again after Thanksgiving Day.  We are asking for people to donate a bouquet of flowers each week (only one vase) and they will be placed on the organ.  Following the worship service this bouquet of flowers will be taken, by our elders & pastoral care workers, to someone in the congregation who is house bound, sick, or dealing with difficult circumstances.  If you would like to participate in this ministry, please sign up in the narthex to donate a bouquet of flowers for a specific Sunday.  Your job in this would be to purchase the flowers with a vase (there are extras in the Council room) and place them on the organ before church that Sunday morning.

2011 YEARBOOKS: If you would like to purchase a 2011 yearbook please notify the church office by September 16th and we’ll add it into the order.

CLASSIS AGENDAS: for the September meeting are available on the table in the narthex.  Help yourself.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: will soon be starting up its new season when we get enough leaders. Please prayerfully consider participating in this wonderful children's ministry. All of the material is provided for you, and I will be glad to help you as much as I can, should you need assistance or have any questions. The crafts are simple; all of the supplies are ready for you.  Please e-mail Liz at or call her if you are interested or have any questions.

HALL MONITORS NEEDED: If you have monitored in the past, please let me know if you will be continuing again this season.  If you have never done this, and have any questions, please feel free to contact Liz.  The more people we have volunteer to do this, the less often you have to do it.  Normally it would be once every 6 - 8 weeks.

OUTLIVE YOUR LIFE BY MAX LUCADO:

We are HOSTING a dvd presentation of the inspirational simulcast held this spring on Saturday September 17, 9am-1pm with registration at 8:30am. The cost is $6/person and includes refreshments.  Please call Theresa at 519-351-1478 before September 12 or signup at the table in the narthex.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

We need some volunteers to make muffins, loaves, cinnamon buns, cookies, squares, etc. and pans of soup (to serve 15-20 people) for the Simulcast (September 17, 2011).  Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex or call Janet B.

COME JOIN US THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 from 6 - 8 PM FOR OUR THIRD ANNUAL FALL NEIGHBOURHOOD BBQ.   This is a great OUTREACH opportunity for YOU the congregation and OUR neighbours to "break bread" together, to check-out and register your children and/or yourself for the various programs being offered at Grace this fall, to play some games or to just simply enjoy a time of fellowship.  If you are planning on attending, please fill in the sign up sheet in the foyer and bring a lawnchair.  See you on the 16th!

WRITING TO OUR MISSIONARIES:

The Outreach Committee encourages all members of Grace to participate in the support of our missionaries.  It means a great deal to them to hear from us.  Therefore, we are coordinating a writing schedule in which we will assign congregational members and groups to write each month.  Please feel free to send a card, letter or email.  It does not need to be long or polished!  The important thing is to keep in touch and assure them of our thoughts and prayers. If you really do not wish to have your name included on the roster, please contact Wendy H, outreach committee chair. The members of the outreach committee will take the first turn in September and the monthly lists will begin to appear in the bulletin on October 1.
