PRAYER LIST

BLENHEIM CHURCH: We continue our prayers for Cor and Johanna.  It has been a difficult struggle for them dealing with Cor's cancer and we pray that his treatments will help him.   We continue our prayers for others in the congregation who need healing, comfort, or strength.  

FIRST CHURCH:  Please pray for and encourage our shut ins throughout this month: Tina at Riverview Gardens, Joanne at Riverview Gardens, Patricia at Blenheim Community Village, Wendy at St. Andrews Residence, Brian at home, Tina at home, and others who are going through difficult times. 

Thank you everyone for your prayers during Benjamin's recent kidney surgery. Pray that the follow up appointments show that the kidney was corrected from the surgery and that no further surgery will be required. 

GRACE CHURCH:  Congratulations to Kevin and Rebecca who were united in marriage last week Friday (September 23rd). We wish them God's blessings! Congratulations to Ron & Connie who were united in marriage yesterday in Burlington.  We wish them God’s blessings!  Please pray for and encourage our shut ins throughout this month: Tina, Bea, Mary, Al, Irene, Mary, and others who are going through difficult times.  Happy Birthday to John who is 85 today, to Margaret who is turning 84 on the 3rd, and to Ron who is turning 73 on the 8th.  Have a blessed day! 

CALVARY CHURCH:  We wish to congratulate Al and Jo-Ann after the wedding of their son Brad and daughter-in-law Cathy yesterday at the Gregory Drive Alliance church. Lena Vandenberg has been in the hospital one week recovering from a fall which happened at home. Our prayers for healing continue to surround John and John among others.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

COFFEE BREAK at Grace CRC will continue to meet on WEDNESDAYs at Grace CRC.  Coffee Break is an outreach Bible study where women to get to know Jesus in a personal and relevant way.  Join us for Morning Coffee Break, which is from 9:45 – 11 a.m. or Evening Coffee Break.  Evening CB meets from 7:30 to 8:30.  For more information, check out www.chathamgrace.com or call Kathy DeKoter at 519-354-7551 or Linda Heyink at 519-351-6229. 

Chatham Christian School:  It's that time of year again.  We are selling unbaked apple pies for $8.00.  They will be ready for pick up October 25 in the afternoon.  Please call Karen Koomans to order your pies  354-4667.  Have your orders in by Oct 17.  Last year we hit our limit early so please order soon.  Please mark this date on your calendars to help.  We need lots of help to make this day a success.     

Annual Life Chain from 2:00 - 3:00pm TODAY October 2nd. It is crucial that every pro-life person stands up for the rights of the unborn, for those who have no voice. If YOU don't, who will?? Come join us at the Pines High School front parking lot at 1:30 for receiving signs and brief instructions and prayer. This is not a protest but rather a silent prayer vigil on our streets in Chatham on the corner of St. Clair and Grand Ave. Babies have been saved through this vigil! Let us stand together and demonstrate our faith in a tangible way. Last year only 100 people in all of Chatham Kent found this a worthwhile cause to participate in. Let's make this year different. 

3rd Annual Boerenkool Supper on October 28th, 2011 at First Church. This year’s proceeds will be used to support members of our churches that are going to Haiti in November with Awaken Haiti.  Volunteers needed: If you are willing to donate items or service (time: approximately 4:30-8pm) please contact Brenda or Kadee Lankhof at 519-351-0233 or lankhofs@sympatico.ca and they will slot you in!! Thanks in advance for your support. 

Reservations: The dinner includes beverages, boerenkool, and pie for dessert! The cost is $10/person, $7/child ages 5-10yrs, or $35/family. Be sure to call Deb Grootenboer at 519-354-6311 and reserve your spot for either a 5 pm or 6pm seating. It is at the same place as last year First CRC Fellowship Hall!

BIRTHDAY CALENDAR:  We will be selling the School Birthday calendar at the Bazaar again this year.  The cost remains at $5.00.  Please call in any changes to Betty Schiestel at 354-3794 or email:  bettyschiestel@yahoo.com.  A calendar will be ordered for you if you had one last year.  New orders are always welcome! 

Plan to come to an exciting "Fall into Winter" Fundraiser Open House Event on Saturday, October 15, from 10 am till 12 noon at Jackie Bultje's house (9538 Gregory Line) to help raise funds for Kadee and Brenda Lankhof's 2nd Mission Trip to Haiti. Shop for great Christmas gifts for everyone with Epicure Fall/Winter items and sample several new products. A CCS Women's Prayer Group will have their first meeting at the school on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. We will meet in the High School lounge at 9:00am and then move to a classroom to pray for about 1 hour. All women are welcome; Moms, Grandmas and all female friends of Chatham Christian Schools. Hope to see you there! 

REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS

Youth Service: Aylmer CRC will be hosting a Youth Service on Sunday, October 2 at 5:00pm. The speaker will be Derrick Drover, a speaker, musician, and singer/songwriter. Born and raised in Newfoundland, Derrick has a unique blend of provoking thought and humour as he challenges young and old alike in their walk with God. His message will be based on the story of “Doubting Thomas”. Come, worship with the whole family, and then join us for soup and buns in the school gym afterwards. 

Andres Vignoli of Operation Christmas Child in Uruguay will be at Parkwood Gospel Temple in Windsor on October 5 at 7pm. Mr. Vignoli will relate different stories of how these gifts affect the lives of the children who receive them. DAY OF ENCOURAGEMENT - Register before Oct. 5 for early-bird rates. The Day of Encouragement will be held on Oct. 15 at Hamilton District Christian High School in Ancaster. CLASSIS CHATHAM HIGHLIGHTS

Tuesday, September 27, 2011  Redeemer CRC  Sarnia, ON

·         Rev. Jim Poelman of the host church led opening devotions.

·         The Credentials Committee reported that all churches were present. A total of 75 delegates, including 15 first-time delegates, were registered. The first-time delegates all signed the Form of Subscription.

·         Classis was declared constituted with Rev. Pieter Pereboom of London-First as Chair and Rev. Willemina Zwart of London-Good News as Vice-Chair.

·         Steve van de Hoef of the CRCNA led a “Blanket Exercise” where delegates walked through the history of the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Canada.

·         Classis decided not to overture Synod 2012 at this time with either of two overtures addressed to Classis regarding the Belhar Confession. One was a request to adopt the Belhar as a testimony, and the other was a request to adopt the Belhar as a Confession.

·         Candidate John Moelker successfully sustained his examination to become a Minister of the Word and Sacraments in the Christian Reformed Church in North America. His installation service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 D.V. at Dresden CRC at 7:30 pm.

·         Classis approved the 2012 budget. The classical ministry share request is $52 per professing member, an increase of 1.96% over the 2011 classical ministry share

·         With sadness, Classis Chatham approved the retirement of Rev. Vic Vandermolen of St. Thomas-First under Article 18-a of the Church Order. Rev. Vandermolen has received medical advice that due to his ongoing illness, he is unable to continue his ministry.

·         Classis adopted the revised Safe Classis Policy.

·         Classis will meet next on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 D.V. at Westmount CRC, Strathroy.
