PRAYER LIST

TO ALL CHURCHES: Thank you to all who prayed for me while I was in the hospital. Also, for your visits, cards, and prayers. Above all I thank the Lord for His goodness. - Coby  

FIRST CHURCH: Peter’s surgery has been postponed to February 13th since there was a more urgent case that bumped him.  Pray for continued strength and patience as Peter awaits this operation.  Mike begins his third week of treatment in Hamilton.  Oscar’s brother Bill from Wyoming, suffered a brain aneurism this past week and passed away on Wednesday January 25th.  The funeral took place yesterday.  Please keep these brothers and sisters in prayer before our heavenly Father.   Happy Birthday to Mr. Fred who is turning 78 on January 31st. Have a wonderful day! 

CALVARY CHURCH: We are praying for four expectant mothers, two of whom are due in the next week. May God deliver our new church family with safety and strength and bless their parents in this week ahead! We continue to pray for John whose strength is a gift from day to day.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

ADULT EDUCATION: Pastor Jack will continue his 8-week class on the book of James.  We meet at 8 PM in the Council Room.  We continue in our study of chapter 1.  Please read through chapter 2 for our discussion 

NEIGHBOURLINK FUNDRAISER: A mystery dinner theatre and silent auction will be held on March 3, 2012 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm at Lawson Hall, 304 St. Clair Street in Chatham. Come out and enjoy a four-course meal while trying to solve the mystery. All proceeds have been designated for NeighbourLink-Chatham-Kent. CHATHAM ADOPTION AND FOSTER CARE INFORMATION NIGHT: Please come out Thursday February 23, 2012 to Chatham-Kent Children’s Services (495 Grand Ave. W.) to learn more about adoption.  These children need you!  Call to register: 519-352-0440.  

GENERATION NOW: We encourage you to come out to this exciting day on Saturday February 11th at Good News Church (476 Clarke Rd.) in London from 9am – 3pm.  We will be having conversations with and about Emerging Adults: the relevance of a Reformed Worldview, Cultural Realities & Shifts, and meaningful mentoring & discipleship.  Cost is $10 with lunch included.  For more information and to register contact Marianne Idema at majidema@gmail.com or 519-424-3948. 

THE MINISTRY TO SEAFARERS: would like to thank all of you who participated in this year’s Christmas Parcel Drive.  We were successful in passing on a parcel to each seafarer on every ship we visited!  May God be glorified by your acts of kindness.  We here at M2S would also like to thank all our faithful supporters and volunteers of 2011.  Have a wonderful 2012 full of His joy! www.ministrytoseafarers.org 

C-K CHRISTIAN MEN’S CHOIR: Do you Love to Sing? We have just started practicing the new music for our April 28th Festival of Praise hosted here in Chatham. There is still room for more new members. We especially need first tenors and basses! If you love to sing why not come out and join our group. We practice at 7:30 every Tuesday night at First Reformed Church - at the corner of Lacroix and Indian Creek Rd. THE WALLACEBURG CHRISTIAN SCHOOL: has been serving the Wallaceburg and Dresden areas for 50 years, and are excited to provide quality, Biblically-based Christian Education from JK – Grade 8.  We are holding an Open House / Registration Day on Thursday, February 2 from 1-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m.  If you or your friends and family are interested in, or have any questions about Christian Education, we invite you to come and meet our staff and students, and get a tour of our school.  For any families who may be ready to register that day, please bring your child’s birth certificate and health card.  We look forward to seeing you!

Westmount CRC, Strathroy, ON

Ø  Rev. Peter Hoytema of the host church led opening devotions based on 1 Cor. 1:20-31

Ø  79 delegates were registered, including 13 first-time delegates. All 28 churches were represented.

Ø  Rev. Willemina Zwart of London-Good News and Rev. Eric Groot-Nibbelink of London-Bethel were seated as chairperson and vice-chairperson for the day.

Ø  An overture from Sarnia-Living Hope that the CRCNA not adopt the Belhar Confession as a Confession was passed by a recorded vote of 54-19.

Ø  Recently retired pastor Vic Vandermolen thanked classis for its support, love and encouragement during his ongoing illness.

Ø  Ministry Associate Beth Fellinger of St. Thomas-Destination Church gave a compelling presentation on “How to be an Engaging Community.” A copy of her presentation is on file with the Stated Clerk.

Ø  With the concurrence of the Synodical Deputies, classis approved a separation of Tillsonburg CRC from its pastor, Rev. George Rowaan according to the provision of Church Order, Article 17-a.

Ø  With the concurrence of the Synodical Deputies, the position of Campus Chaplain at Fanshawe College was declared to be consistent with the office of Ministry Associate.

Ø  St. Thomas-First CRC reported that George Lubbers has accepted their call and will begin his ministry on Feb. 20, 2012 D.V. and Strathroy-East reported that Rev. Derek Bouma has accepted their call and will begin his ministry on April 1, 2012 D.V.

Ø  Rev. Craig Hoekema (Sarnia-Living Hope) and Rev. Bob Loerts, (Woodstock-Coventant) along with Elder Jenny Douma (Sarnia-Redeemer) and Elder Martin Bosveld (Chatham-Calvary) were chosen to represent Classis Chatham at Synod 2012 at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, ON in June. Rev. Jack Kerkhof, Rev. Dr. William Koopmans, Elder Pete Weeming and Elder Peter Beerda were chosen as alternate delegates.

Ø  Classis Chatham will meet next at First CRC, London, ON on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 D.V
