WHAT IS ALPHA?
Alpha is series of 10 interactive sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question and is designed to create conversation. There is no pressure, no follow-up and no cost. It’s just an open, informal and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together. However, in order to gain the most effective and impacting experience, we suggest setting the goal of committing to the full 10 weeks as opposed to attending 'here-and-there.' At the conclusion of each Alpha (on the 11th week), there is a follow-up called The Alpha Celebration. This is an opportunity to invite someone from your circle of relationships to come and hear about the Alpha experience you just had. This night includes a dinner, an Alpha preview, guest testimonies/stories, and always a few surprises!
People attend for a variety of reasons. Some want to investigate whether God exists and if there is any point to life; others are concerned about what happens after death. Still, others may have attended church on and off all their lives but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Many others attend because they lack confidence in how to answer some questions of faith that may be asked of them. People come from many different backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints, but all come with the same objective: to establish whether Jesus Christ has any real relevance for their lives. Whether you grew up in a Christian environment or never set foot in church; whether you are 16 or 86; whether you work, are in school or somewhere in between…
ALPHA IS FOR EVERYONE!
CONVERSATION
After the talk, participants divide into pre-arranged small groups, in which they remain for the duration of the Alpha course. The groups provide participants with opportunity to discuss the talk in an environment where each person is free to ask or say whatever they wish.
CONNECT
The time of connection is followed by a talk on a subject central to the Christian faith. They explore the big issues of life and faith and unpack the basics of Christian belief, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”
FOOD
At each 2-2.5 hour session, there is a time of connection over refreshments and/or drinks, where possible.
